You're going to find a lot of answers to this question, depending on who you ask. The Bible doesn't really tell us more than that God is in heaven... and you have to look in other books to get any more of an answer than that, in a physical sense. If you are talking about spiritually, God is said to walk among men at times, though we don't know that it is him... and he "dwells in our hearts" as well, probably meaning that we always have a connection to him through prayer. Psalm 123:1 Unto you I lift up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens. Ecclesiastes 5:2 Let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth.
"God is a Spirit," says the Bible. (John 4:24) Therefore, he resides in a spiritual realm independent of the physical universe. When the Bible refers to "the heavens" as God's dwelling place, it is referring to the loftiness of the place where he resides in contrast with the material environment in which we reside. In any event, the Bible teaches that God's abode is clearly distinguished from the physical universe but is at the same time a very specific location.
