Matthew
Yes he was tempted in the wilderness by satan.
The significance of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness by Satan was to demonstrate his strength and faithfulness to God, as well as to serve as an example for believers on how to resist temptation and stay true to their beliefs.
Jesus was with the disciples for a short time, then went into the wilderness for forty days where he was tempted by the devil.
No there was no spirit that lead Jesus into the desert. He went on his own will to pray. And the devil then tempted him.In the Gospels:Matthew 4:1 - Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.Mark 1:12, 13 - Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness. And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.Luke 4:1, 2 - Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. The Spirit being spoken of is God's Holy Spirit.[Quotes from NKJV]
The significance of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness is that it shows his human nature and his ability to resist temptation. This event relates to his overall mission and teachings by demonstrating his commitment to following God's will and setting an example for others to resist temptation and stay true to their beliefs.
No writer actually designated the very start of His ministry. John mentions the turning of water to wine as being the first miracle, but this is not necessarily the start of His public ministry.Prior to beginning His public ministry, Jesus was baptized and then tempted in the wilderness by Satan.
By being virtuous, and praying & committing one's own self fully to Christ Jesus.
Jesus actually was tempted, when he was living on this earth. It says in Matthew 4:1- Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. Jesus had been fasting in the desert for 40 days, then the devil came to him and said If you are really Jesus than turn those stones into bread. Jesus replied saying man shall not live on bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of the father. The devil tempts Him in other ways and still Jesus resisted it. Some people might say well if Jesus was tempted than he sinned and if he sinned then he couldn't be God. Being tempted isn't a sin, it's what you do with that temptation that makes it wrong.
Jesus spent 40 days in the desert being tempted by the devil. But of course, before this we are told that Jesus did bot commence his ministry until he was the age of 30. Luke mentions an incident at the age of 12 when Jesus astounded the temple priests with his knowledge of scripture even at that age. But between the age of 12 and 30 nothing is known except that he was recognised as a carpenter in his home town of Nazareth (presumably taking over Joseph's business). This for 18 years we know nothing of Jesus' life. There have been many speculations about this. Did he go to India? Africa? or a host of other comspiracy theories. There is absolutely no evidence for any of them. All we know is that at around the age of 30 Jesus was baptised by his cousin John and, after spending time in the desert he realised his own mission and just who he was. He was to live just three more years on earth. For us, this gives us great hope, for we too can realise our potential quite late in life. God has a plan for each one of us if we take up the invitation; but whatever it is it is in God's time it will happen and not our own. With Jesus, the plan was for his last three years to be a concentrated mission proclaiming the Kingdom of God.
Satan didn't tempt Jesus to be a kind of messiah. Satan tempted Jesus to turn away from being the messiah. Satan tempted Jesus to turn away from God the father and to worship him, Satan
Jesus is praying for his friends on earth, his disciples, as well as all believers. he knows he is going to die soon and is praying for all the people that will be left on earth without him
of course not! lent is the preparation of the resurrection of Christ, who died on the cross to save us. in lent we fast as jesus did when he was being tempted by the devil.
