Jesus was whipped, though The Bible doesn't say how often(Matthew 27:20-31)(Mark 15:15)(John 19:1)(Prophecy:Isaiah53:5 / Luke 18:32-33).

For his 'crime' he was most likely given the maximum 'allowed by law'...40 (Deuteronomy 25:3),though the Jews usually did just 39 to prevent 'accidentally' going over the allowed number.

Paul, however, said that he (Paul) had "..five times received forty strokes less one. . ."

at the hands of the Jews. (2 Corinthians 11:24)

Matthew's Gospel

Mat 27:26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

Mark's Gospel

Mar 15:15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

Luke's Gospel

Luk 23:22 And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.

John's Gospel

Joh 19:1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.

They thought Jesus was lying about being the Son of God (which is 100% true) so they whipped him 39 times as a punishment. But that isn't important because 3 days later, he rose again from the dead. And offers us all eternal life!! To start a personal relationship with Jesus, pray this prayer.
