Where in the Bible does it say that a person is not always saved?

First of all, we are not saved yet. Anyone who accepts the Lord into their life and they live for Him will not be totally saved until Jesus comes back for us. Once He has come back and taken us then we are saved. The Bible says "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." Mark 13:13 Saved - rescued; especially from the power and consequences of sin; "a saved soul"; bring into safety; Backslider - A recidivist; one who backslides, especially in a religious sense; an apostate. Apostate - A person who renounces a religion or faith Renounce - Disclaim, refuse to have anything to do with. The Bible tells us in different scripture that one can backslide and lose their salvation. Malachi 3:7 "Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?" This scripture tells us that the children of Israel have fallen away from God. Revelation 3:3 "Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee." The following verses also talk about one knowing the ways of the Lord and falling away from them back out into sin. Therefore not being "saved" any longer. 2 Peter 2:20-22 "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have kown it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, THE DOG IS TURNED TO HIS OWN VOMIT AGAIN; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire."

• John 10:27-28 • John 6:37-40, 44 • Romans 8:38-39 These are scripture references that appear in the context of the certainty of God's keeping intention and power. This is one of the most hotly debated subject among Christians. I happen to believe firmly in the security of the believer. There was a time when I would argue the subject with whomever wanted to debate it. I no longer do this as I do not believe it's productive. For the most part, folks that wish to debate this subject already have their minds made up. I do not believe something as precious as security should be subjected to essentially meaningless debate. If you choose to really dig into this subject you will find that, at its core, it comes down to different definitions of salvation. Those who believe one can be lost after salvation have a different understanding of salvation than those who believe God keeps the believer safe forever. To step out and study this subject earnestly will bring you great rewards in your understanding of God, His sovereignty, His will and His salvation. Remember, if you are saved it is not your salvation, it is God's salvation that you possess. In and of itself, this distinction tells most of the story.

There are several verses in the Bible that support the concept that once someone is saved (Having Faith in Jesus and his all-sufficient sacrifice as payment for sins) they cannot be "unsaved." Jesus himself spoke strongly to this effect as is recorded in John 10:

[27] "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. [28] I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. [29] My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. [30] I and the Father are one."

Furthermore, there are many verses that indicate that once a person is saved, they are a fundamentally different person and that the Holy Spirit lives within them. One example is found in 2 Corinthians 5:

[16] From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. [17] Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Those that argue that those that are saved can lose their salvation often cite that even Christians often sin. This is true, however, Paul acknowledges in Romans that sin will continue to be a problem for Christians throughout his letters to the Churches. In Romans he writes:

20] Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, [21] so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

[6:1] What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? [2] By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? [3] Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? [4] We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
