Where was god when there is no heaven and earth?

The earth was covered with water, minerals, gases and elements. How do I know? Water consists of hydrogen and oxygen, so gases, elements, minerals and like substances were present.

AnswerBefore God "created the earth and the heavens" [sic] there was nothing physical at all in the entire universe: there was no matter at all anywhere, absolutely nothing, not even a vacuum.

The finite human mind balks at such questions. To try to imagine our Eternal Creator being somewhere before somewhere [the limitless universe] was made (???)

The flesh, by its very limited nature, together in conjunction with its carnal mind that's fed "physical data" to it by the five physical senses; is stymied in its concept of words like "limitless, eternity, forever, without end, infinite, etc..

Trying to imagine an invisible God [who is Spirit - John 4:24], which the five physical senses cannot detect, standing, sitting or reclining in the middle of nothingness, before He made matter, defies the human imagination.

It's as impossible to conceive of that, as it is to imagine evolution's concept of "eternal matter" that has either always existed... or that somehow spontaneously came into existence from nothing, which then "exploded"... resulting in an orderly universe.

So, either "matter is eternal" [according to the evolutionary theory, which always seems to begin with matter already in existence]... or the question must also be posed: "Where was matter before it came into its unimaginable and orderly existence; resulting in the innumerable galaxies, planets, suns and moons with all their perfect axes, rotations, and orbits, that we know of, today ?"

We simply cannot imagine what we see around us [the world, the stars in the sky] in a "former state" of "not being." The human mind can only conceive of "limitations." We need to have boundaries, walls, fences, and laws... if for no other reason than to "transgress" them. Or we can learn to "live within" and "obey" the boundaries and laws life has set for us.

We can hardly imagine the concept of God... of spirit beings, demons or angels; much less imagining God "physically being" in this or that place [or in our pocket]. The Bible just tells us that HE IS! That He ALWAYS WAS... and that HE SHALL ALWAYS BE!

That's what "LORD" means in the vile English language: ETERNAL!

God's very Name, "Eternal," is beyond human concept! So, to try to imagine Him before or after He created the universe is beyond the human imagination. We'll all just have to accept Him or reject Him according to whatever measure of Faith He gives [or doesn't give] to us in the interim until His feet stand on the Mount of Olives and our eyes behold Him... or wait "until our change comes" (Job 14:14 & I Cor.15:51), to grasp the reality of our Creator.

But as long ago as the eleventh century CE, the influential Jewish scholar, Rashi, said that Genesis 1:1 should be read, "When God began to create" or "In the beginning of God's creation ". E.A. Speiser (Genesis, in the Anchor Bible series) goes further and translates the sentence as: "When God set about to create heaven and earth - the world being a formless waste, with darkness over the seas... God said, 'Let there be light.' And there was light." Although Rashi and Speiser may have believed that God created the earth itself, neither could find anything in the text that says so. Genesis 1:1 to 2:4a ( up to first sentence of 2:4) says there was a pre-existing watery chaos. The ocean was already present and a wind moved across the surface. The seas rested on the dry land, which appeared on day 3 when God gathered the waters together. Reading the first creation story correctly as written, creation began with the creation of daylight (although the sun and moon were only created much later). The earth was pre-existing, as possibly was heaven.

In the second creation story (Genesis 2:4b-25), God walked the earth, which was pre-existing. Here, the first act of creation was to take dirt and create Adam. There is no need to wonder where God was during any part of creation.

god was already alive before anything happend. He was not even thinking about creating the earth at that time. But he was created when the world came into play.
