It depends on whether you are looking at the Jewish canon or the Christian canon. The Jewish canon begins with Joshua and ends with Malachi. The Christian canon opens with Isaiah and ends with Malachi.
Prophets.
It is part of the Later Prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Hosea etc.), which in turn is part of the Prophets. The Prophets is the second third of the Hebrew Bible (Torah, Prophets, Writings).
The Hebrew Bible (called "old testament" by Christians) is called Tanakh (×ª× ×´×š) in Hebrew, which is an acronym for the 3 section of the Bible: Torah, Prophets, and Writings.
They are: Books of Law, Books of History, Books of Poetry, Major Prophets, and Minor Prophets.
The major prophets are the books in the Old Testament that give the prophesies of God to the Jewish people. They are not called 'major' because they are more important than the 'minor' prophets but simply because their books are longer. The major prophets are:- * Isaiah * Jeremiah * Ezekiel * Daniel and are found in the last section of the Old Testament. They are followed by the minor prophets (as their books are much shorter):- Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi.
The "Old Testament" is called that only by Christians. The first five books are the Torah, then there is the Nevi'im, or Prophets; and finally the Ketuvim, or Writings. These make up the holy scriptures for the Jews.
Ketuvim.
No as they were common people called by god, one was even a shepherd.
These books in the Old Testament are called the Prophets. There are the major prophets and the minor prophets. The major prophets are: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel. The minor prophets are: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. The Major Prophets are called "major" because their books are longer and the content has wide, even global implications. The Minor Prophets are called "minor" because their books are shorter and the content is more narrowly focused.
Most religions believe in some form of ancient prophets. Judaism and Christianity have the prophets of the Old Testament. Islam adds Mohammad to the list of ancient prophets. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" Church) believes in the Biblical prophets as well as modern-day prophets. They believe that the leader of their church is the prophet of God.
The Second division of the Christian Bible is the New Testament. The Second division of the Hebrew Bible (תנ״ך) is called the Prophets (נביאים).
The prophets in the old testament were all called by god to be prophets. None of them wanted to be one by themselves, they were all god called people to do gods work. And mostly all were from humble back grounds.
