The room in a monastery used for writing or copying manuscripts is called a scriptorium. This dedicated space was typically equipped with writing materials and provided a quiet environment for monks to meticulously transcribe texts, including religious scriptures and classical works. Scriptoria played a crucial role in preserving knowledge during the Middle Ages.
A medieval scriptorium was the room, or building, usually part of a church or monastery where books and documents were copied by hand before the invention of a printing press or movable typeset. Usually an orator would read the book to be copied aloud and multiple writers would copy it. It was in these scriptoria that the most beautiful illuminated books were produced during the medieval period.

The attic
Writing a room and board letter can mean a few things. One should include the reasons for writing the letter.
Basically, the Chapter House is the monk's meeting room, or conference chamber. Here the Abbott and senior members of the Abbey discuss all affairs related to the running of the monastery- financial matters, structural maintenance, monastery policy in relation to social or political developments, changes or developments to the way the monastery is run, and all matters such as this. The Chapter House is also used for important meetings concerning ALL the monks, and also as a kind of arbitration court to settle disputes amongst the Brothers, or between the monastery and neighbouring landowners.
