Christ, of course. you are building into the Pentecost gospel with the descent of the Holy Spirit , in the upper room ( of a temple of some sort- not literally heaven on earth) and one of the few incidents where rapid, almost broadcast like action is the theme and nobody is standing in line, wandering around the desert, etc. A Principal I had in high school once retorted to a Salvationist- there was a delay in picking up flea-market or white elephant sale merchandise- the ( patience is a virtue) angle- and Mr. Bennett retorted, I concur, but- there"s a time for action- look at the Pentecost Gospel-the Spirit was Broadcast, right- nobody standing in line ! The Salvationist had to agree.
Because Christ Promised to send to His Apostles and to his disciples the Holy Spirit.
Jesus told the apostles that once he was risen he would sent someone to be ever present and as a comforter. This refers to the Holy Spirit.
Jesus told the disciples that he would send the Holy spirit , to comfort the disciples once he is no longer on earth.
Some key passages in the Bible about the Holy Spirit include Acts 2:1-4, where the Holy Spirit descends on the apostles at Pentecost, John 14:16-17, where Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit as a helper, and Romans 8:26-27, which discusses the Holy Spirit interceding for believers.
*courage The holy spirit gave the apostles the courage to preach when the spirit came down and gave them the power of tongues in the form of fire on top of each of their heads to speak in a way that everyone understood.
when he was alive on earth
As jesus left the earth he told the disciples that he would send the comforter, in his place to guide and help the disciples.the holy spirit is there to help us.
He proised His Father would send His Holy Spirit, called the Comforter, Helper, Spirit of Christ, to the Church of God and all who follow and obey. This occurred on the 1st Pentecost - the beginning of the Church.
Jesus said he would leave the Holy Spirit with the disciples to guide and empower them to continue his work after he ascended to heaven.
Yes The Apostles received Baptism of the Holy Spirit forty-nine days before the Feast of Pentecost. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. John 20:19-22
The Holy Spirit seems to have been needed only once, to impart the powers required by an apostle. John's Gospel says that on the day of his resurrection, Jesus breathed on the apostles in the upper room, giving them the Holy Spirit. Acts of the Apostles says that the Holy Spirit came down like tongues of flame on the day of the Pentecost and sat on each of the apostles. This anomaly can be explained because the author of Actscertainly did not know of the existence of John's Gospel, while the author of John probably did not know of the existence of Acts, even though he did know of the somewhat earlier Luke's Gospel. Each sought to demonstrate that the apostles received the Holy Spirit, and each provided his own unique account.
Jesus was refering to the holy spirit here , as the comforter.
