The military leader who seized control of northern India was Alexander the Great. In the 4th century BCE, he invaded the region and achieved significant victories against local kingdoms, including the famous Battle of the Hydaspes against King Porus. Although his campaign was marked by impressive military tactics, he eventually turned back after reaching the Beas River, unable to push further into India due to the resistance from his troops. His incursions, however, left a lasting impact on the region's political landscape and culture.
