At the time of the Bible's authorship incest was outlawed, so this was simply left without explanation--though we must infer incest.

Jewish AnswerAccording to the Midrash (an additional Jewish teaching) Abel and Cain married their twin sisters. The prohibition of incest had not yet been given. It was only after they sinned that one had to search for their marriage partner.
