This is probably Mel Gibson. A well-known Roman Catholic, he is famous for his film "The Passion of the Christ" which depicts in graphic and gory detail the scourging and crucifixion of Jesus, culmination in his burial and resurrection.

Gibson was panned by the critics for the movie calling it 'antisemitic' and 'bloodthirsty' and 'sensationalist' because of the bloody scenes of torture. However, to the purist, the film was historically accurate, right down to the language spoken by Jesus (Aramaic) and showed the suffering of this innocent man.
