Joseph's two sons were Ephraim and Manesseh. When the twelve tribes of Israel entered Canaan and divided up the land, Ephraim and Manesseh each received a share of the land, instead of Joseph their father. In this way, Joseph, through his sons, received a "double portion" of the Promised Land.
