Who were the enemies of Jesus?

Jesus' enemies were the Pharisees they didn't like him because he performed miracles and he took their people away from them.

Some people think that the Romans were his enemies but actually they didn't care what happened to him they just wanted to do their job and what their boss told them to do: kill Jesus!

Additionally:

The Bible reveals that Jesus' enemies were and are many.

We're told that "death" is one enemy... and that it's the "last" one that He will defeat:

"...For He must reign , till He hath put all enemiesunder His feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." (I Cor.15:25-26)

Another "enemy" is man's "hostile" carnal nature:

"...the carnal mind is enmity [hostile] against God..." (Rom.8:7).

Paul, speaking to the church in Rome, admits that he and other converted believers were all Jesus' "enemies" before He justified them:

"...God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us... For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His Life." (Rom.5:8-10)

We're told that man in his "natural state" is Jesus' enemy unless and until he repents and is obedient to Him:

"...Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you." (John 15:14)

Jesus reveals that His enemies will continue to exist until He returns with the Kingdom of God... at which time they will be "weeded out" and destroyed.

"...The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the Sons of the Kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.

"The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will weed out of His Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth... (Matt.13:38-42 NIV).

In the end... Satan the Devil is the enemy of Jesus Christ... and he's still around. It was he who excited the occasional crowds to assay to kill Jesus before His time. It was his hatred of Jesus that burned in the hearts of the Pharisees. And it was he who personally entered into Judas when the time came:

"...Then entered Satan into Judas..." (Luke 22:3).

The enemies of Jesus didn't live in the past and die off with the Pharisees. They live on in men today in all walks of life.

Adam and Eve weren't Jesus' enemies until they chose "another god" to worship and obey. And their children have worshiped that god ever since. The world is Jesus' enemy.

"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated Me before it hated you." (John 15:18)

"The world cannot hate you; but ME IT HATETH, BECAUSE I TESTIFY OF IT, THAT THE WORKS THEREOF ARE EVIL." (John 7:7)

Jesus illuminates the Truth regarding the "spiritual" element of life and the world. He exposes Satan and his angels, of whom this twisted, perverted world is subject, to those with the eyes to see and the ears to hear. And the corrupt, twisted "powers" of this world HATE being told that "it's wrong... evil... wicked."

Human nature, which is in tune with Satan's ways, hates being corrected and told it's wrong. And this is exactly what the Word of God does. It:

"...is profitable for doctrine, for reproof , for correction..." (II Tim.3:16).

That's why the world hates the Bible. Well... the Bible is okay with the world... until someone tries to open it up and apply it to real life, at least. Then the sparks of hatred begin to fly.

And it's the blinded, deceived spirits of men [who are subject to Satan's ways] who hate the Truth of God:

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, against authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Eph.6:12 NIV)

The world can't see the illuminated Truth of God, because its deceived spirit has been numbed to it by its god:

"...the great Dragon... that old Serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world..." (Rev.12:9).

Nor has the world's hatred of Jesus and His testimony, the Truth of God, ceased.

"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated Me before it hated you... but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." (John 15:18-19)

Jesus' elect [His ekklesia, His called-out-ones, His church] have inherited His enemies.

Those same deceiving spirits extant in the days that Jesus walked the earth in the flesh are STILL HERE, TODAY. They are still deceiving, still wrecking evil, still subjecting struggling man to their invisible spiritual influences.

Witness the world's reaction to the mention of "Jesus' name" today. It still hates it... the very public mention of it.

Witness the world's reaction to the public reading of the Bible... calling it "hate--speech" -- because it tells the Truth that the world cannot tolerate.

"...ye seek to kill Me, because My Word hath no place in you." (John 8:37)

"...ye seek to kill Me, a man that hath TOLD YOU THE TRUTH..." (verse 40).

"Ye are of your father the Devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the Truth, because there is no Truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And BECAUSE I TELL YOU THE TRUTH, ye believe Me not...

He that is of God heareth God's Words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God." (verses 44-47)

Words seem like such simple things. But "words are spirit"... that can incite both love and hatred. Each are strong emotions. One results in ecstatic joy... the other in incredible misery and suffering.

The Words that have proceeded out of the mouth of God [the Bible] are, at the same time, words of joy to those who are "of God"... and words of misery to the world, which is not of God.

This world... Satan's world... is the enemy of Jesus Christ. It's His enemy, because it HATES TRUTH:

"...thy WORD IS TRUTH." (John 17:17)

Jesus' enemies never went away -- because the Word of God, the Bible [the TRUTH], has been preserved, and printed and published... and is a perennial bestseller in the world.

His enemies hate His Truth, because it "numbers their days" and His death and resurrection spells their end.

"...when this Priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God. Since that time He waits for His enemies to be made His footstool, because by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy." (Heb.10:12-14 NIV)

"For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet." (I Cor.15:25 NIV)

Jesus has enemies, because His Words expose them for the evil that they do. And because the power of those Words reveal their ultimate end.

"But those enemies of Mine who did not want Me to be King over them -- bring them here and kill them in front of Me." (Luke 19:27)

Jesus' enemies hate the Truth.
