Nuns (who also can be referred to as sisters but there is a clear difference), do not 'work' in true employment sense. They 'work' to help various sections of the community or do other 'works' such as prayers depending on what their order has been established for. Although some sisters do work as in the meaning of employment such as nurses and teachers, they are still working for the wider community and any salary for such work is donated to the particular order the sister may come from, as most if not all sisters have a vow of poverty so hold no individual wealth. Nuns are normally cloistered religious, 'sisters' are not. Although they called "Sisters", they are not the same as "Sisters" who work outside of a convent or monastery. There are also differences in the length of vows taken. They are the same word in English but refer to different vocations. Either way, both - nuns and sisters work for God. Everything they do: pray, nurse, sew, cook, teach, is done for the Greater Glory of God.
