Lies and religion go hand in hand.
Opinion: Just because you present an accusation as a question, still makes it an accusation. Consider the following: '...their true history' - As a group JW's have been mistaken but never claimed infallibility. (neither should they individually).
'Cult' - Defined in part as a 'derogatory term used to express disapproval or those who hold beliefs other than one's own' (www.godweb.org/dictionary/). and lastly,
'destroys families' - Read Mathew 10:34 - 37, the priority given between saving a life and family loyalty is clearly set out in The Bible.
Since the ordinary Jehovah's Witness that comes to the door is likely themselves deceived it is doubtful that they are lying since they are only repeating what they have been taught or told to say. They probably genuinely believe whatever they say. The best thing to do is to politely give them information, in a loving manner, and offer to give them more if they wish at a later time. Thus, gross errors such as "J'W's model themselves on the first century Christian congregation" can easily be refuted. Simple reference to the scriptures can do this, the very scriptures used by the first Christians. The challenge is for Christians to themselves know the scriptures so they can do this. This also includes false use of the sacred scriptures (such as Matthew 10:34-37), which clearly do not apply to a cult which does not teach the truth about the person who spoke the words recorded in these verses, Jesus Christ, who is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Alpha and Omega. [alternate to the first paragraph] Since the ordinary person answering a wiki question likely is themselves deceived it is doubtful that they are lying since they are only repeating what they have been taught or told to say. They probably genuinely believe whatever they say. The best thing to do is to politely give them information, in a loving manner, and offer to give them more if they wish at a later time.
Come on.... please base your answer with reference to fact, not solely on you own opinion.
Re- J'W's model themselves on the first century Christian congregation: Given it's minor relevance to the original question, I withdraw it under this context. The proceeding sentence was more to the point.
