Because they are religious
Saints in the Catholic Church serve as role models and intercessors for believers. They are admired for their virtue, holiness, and dedication to God, and their lives are often studied and celebrated as examples to emulate. Many Catholics pray to saints for their help and guidance in specific areas of their own lives.
There is no specific female Patron of Saints. Saints are recognized for their holiness and are venerated within the Catholic Church and other Christian traditions. They can serve as intercessors in prayer, regardless of their gender.

Catholics are not required to pray to saints, but it is a common practice in Catholic tradition to seek the intercession of saints for their prayers. This is based on the belief that the saints can intercede on behalf of individuals before God. Ultimately, prayer in the Catholic faith is directed to God, but saints can serve as intercessors.
Patron saints are our "lawyers" or intercessors in Heaven. Thet know how to pray with us and for us and few humans have that ability. Some patron saints are "legal specialists" and have special areas that they seem to be very successful at addressing, such as cancer, finding lost articles, difficult pregnancies, etc.

Saints are important because they make excellent roll models for us to emulate. They are also great intercessors for us before God. Here on earth, few of us really know how to pray for special favors. Saints, on the other hand, are experts at prayer and can help us to receive those requests that we might have to God. They are great allies.
During medieval times, people prayed to saints as intercessors, believing that saints held a special status in heaven and could effectively advocate for them before God. This practice was rooted in the idea that saints, being holy individuals who had lived virtuous lives, had the power to intercede for the faithful in their prayers. Additionally, praying to saints provided a tangible connection to the divine, offering hope and comfort in times of need, illness, or uncertainty. The veneration of saints also fostered a sense of community and shared faith among believers.
Saints are individuals who are recognized for their exceptional holiness in various religious traditions, while disciples are followers or students of a religious leader, particularly in Christianity. Saints are often venerated and may be considered intercessors between humans and the divine, while disciples are more focused on learning and spreading the teachings of their religious leader.
To worship the so called Saints, who are themselves but men and women is an abomination in the sight of God. " ...and thou shalt have no other God's before me, and none other shalt thou worship" Robert.

The closest thing to Saint in Islam is an important Sufi Teacher. However, unlike Catholic Saints, the Sufis are not seen as true divine intercessors or bestowers of good luck. Visiting a Sufi burial site is the only holy action done in connection to a Sufi's holy nature and is supposed to help lift the soul of a worshiper.
