Why aren't people Christians?

Some people aren't Christians because Satan makes them blind of the truth, he wants many people to burn in hell. Its sad, but its the truth. Also, many people who aren't given much love, don't believe in God. It might be coincidence, but God is love, and to believe in God you need faith to love something you can't see or touch, just feel. There are many reasons - probably as many reasons as there are people!

However, most of the reasons can be grouped into a few general headings:

1. They have never heard of Jesus Christ. This may sound strange in modern society and global communications, but for many the name of Jesus Christ is little more than a swear word. For others they simply haven't heard of him. This is simply because they may live in areas of the world where the message of Jesus Christ either has not reached them or is suppressed because of political or other oppression.

2. They have heard of Jesus Christ, but regard all religion as irrelevant, and, as a result have misconceptions about anything religious. Often these people are atheists and reject Christianity but often they have a very skewed and stereotyped idea of what 'religion' is. They cannot understand why there are those, despite the fact that they may be intelligent, who feel the need to believe in a superior being.

3. There are those who have heard of Jesus Christ, understand just what his message is, but, because they do not wish, for one reason or another, to make a commitment to him, reject him out of hand.

4. There are those who have thought through their idea of religion, and reject religion of any sort as a result. However, these tend to have a warped idea of just what Christianity is about, and can sometimes make some sort of commitment if it is explained to them in the correct way.

5. There are those that, for cultural or other reasons, live out their spirituality in another way, by being part of another religion rather than Christianity.

These are certainly not exhaustive reasons, and I can think of many others, but jhopefully these five are a good start to answering this question. However, it is fair to add that, despite what the question says, Christianity is still the most dominant religion in the world, and is growing, in some countries (like China and Korea) exponentially.
