In the biblical narrative found in Genesis, God curses Eve with pain in childbirth as part of the consequences of her disobedience to God's command in the Garden of Eden. This punishment reflects the broader theme of the Fall, where sin introduced suffering and hardship into human existence. The curse signifies not only the physical pain of childbirth but also the complexities and challenges of the human experience, including the relational dynamics between men and women. Ultimately, it serves as a reminder of the consequences of disobedience and the need for redemption.

It was a serpent in the Garden and the serpent spoke to Eve. There is no indication that the serpent was a snake or that it was not in some other form before God found out what Eve and Adam had done. It was then that God told the serpent that he would crawl on his belly and eat the dust of man forever. Why would God curse something that already was. In other words God would not curse the serpent to not walk if it was already not walking. So it stands to reason that if the serpent was cursed to crawl then it was apparently walking before the curse that God put on it. Plus it also communicated to Eve to disobey God's law.Serpent is a word of Latin origin (from serpens, serpentis "something that creeps. So couldn't the creeper have been something else that creeped. Maybe a fallen angel that worked against God and when God discovered what he had done cursed this angel and all of its offspring to crawl on its belly forever thus a snake.
