To prove his power over death to this world and to show that his followers will have victory over death also. The Bible teaches that Jesus died as a sacrificial substitute for His people. He took the punishment for their sins upon Himself. It also teaches that Jesus' resurrection is God's way of showing that this sacrifice was acceptable to God. That is good news for believer, since it means that they are free from the judgment of God's wrath.
