Jesus would have known He could not have reached Lazarus before He died - and once he was dead, he was dead! Also, this was an opportunity to demonstrate His omnipotence.

Additionally:

"...so that you may believe..." (John 11:15 NIV).

"...said Martha, the sister of the dead man, 'by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.' Then Jesus said, 'Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?' ...Then Jesus looked up and said, 'Father, I thank you that you have heard Me. I knew that you always hear Me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent Me." (verses 39-42)

What is a city in Judea?

Bethany which is a village "about two miles" away from Jerusalem. Just as Capernaum was Jesus' home in Galilee (Mark 2:1), Bethany might be called his home in Judea. It was the "certain village" that Jesus visited during his later Judean ministry (approximately October to December, 32 C.E.), the location of the home of Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, who became beloved friends of Jesus. (Luke 10:38) Here Jesus later performed the miracle of Lazarus' resurrection. (John 11:1, 38-44)

What did Jesus do for lazarus?

Lazarus was raised from the dead by Jesus. He was a brother of Mary and Martha, living in Bethany. Found in John, chapter 11. Jesus spoke of another Lazarus, who was poor, sitting and begging at the gate of a rich man's home. This beggar died and went to "Abraham's bosom," a way of saying that he went to paradise. The rich man, who didn't care about the needs of the poor beggar, also died, but went to Hell, where he was in torments. Found in Luke 16:19-31.

Why did the angels carry Lazarus away in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus?

The story of Lazareth is a parable by Jesus, in Luke 16:19-31. When Jesus spoke of the angel carrying away Lazarus to the bosom of Abraham, this was intended allegorically, to mean that he died and went to heaven. In the parable, it was important that Lazarus be clearly understood as taken to heaven, to create a contrast to the fate of the rich man.

Where was Jesus when Lazarus died?

His soul was in heaven.If you mean Lazarus, who was a poor man that Jesus used in his story:Luke 16:22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

Was Jesus talking to the grave clothes in john 11 44?

In John 11:44, Jesus was not talking to the grave clothes. He was calling Lazarus, who had been dead for four days, out of the tomb. Jesus commanded him to come out, and Lazarus emerged alive and well.

Why did Jesus weep in John 11?

Lazarus was well liked by all the Jews in the area but was a close friend to Jesus and his followers. He felt the remorse which all felt. This was put in to show the compassion that Jesus had.Whether this story is true or not, it is a great story to teach each of us, regardless of what we think of religion, that we should have compassion and care for our fellow man.Answer:Jesus wept for the people's lack of faith and understanding of the God they professed... not for His sadness over Lazarus's death. He was about to raise Lazarus out of death to reveal to these faithless people God's power and majesty. What was there about that to cry about?Jesus wept for the "darkness" and "unbelief" in which the people lived."...'Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?' So they took away the stone."Then Jesus looked up and said, 'Father, I thank you that you have heard Me. I knew that you always heard Me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent Me." (John 11:40-42 NIV)"...the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom [both the carnal minded result of the lack of divine understanding]: but we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; but unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the Power of God, and the Wisdom of God." (I Cor.1:22-24)Jesus wept for the people's lack of understanding and belief... not for the loss of His friend Lazarus.

What does it mean when Jesus is crying on a cross?

Jesus is not crying for his own sake, however, he is crying because of a world filled with sin. Though his sacrifice has paved a way of redemption, he knows that many will turn their backs on him and his Father and thus be condemned to an eternity with out God. Another example, when Jesus was called to the tomb of Lazarus and was speaking with Mary and her sister, he asked the men to roll away the stone, when one spoke and stated Lazarus has been dead, I believe it was 7 days, surely he stinks by now. Shortly after this the simple and shortest verse in the Bible occurs, Jesus Wept. Jesus did not weep for Lazarus, nor did he weep because Lazarus was dead, he wept because of the lack of faith those around him had.

What does Lazarus mean?

In Luke's Gospel, Lazarus was the name of a figurative person in a parable about his death and hypothetical resurrection. He is not portrayed as a real person.John's Gospel, chapter 11, says that Lazarus was the brother of Mary and Martha, and tells of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. This became the trigger for the arrest and trial of Jesus, when the chief priests and Pharisees said (John 11:47-48), "What do we? for this man doeth many miracles. If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation." Then in John 12:10, the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death.New Testament scholars notice that the two sisters, Mary and Martha, and Lazarus occur only in Luke's Gospel and John's Gospel. In Luke, Mary and Martha are not even the sisters of Lazarus, although the two accounts contain some important parallels.

I am researching women in the bible and i would like to find out more about Martha lazarus sister?

Bonds of affection existed between Jesus and Martha, Mary, and Lazarus because it was said: "Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus."---Joh 11:5. On one occasion when Jesus visited the home of Lazarus, Mary, and Martha, Mary "sat down at the feet of the Lord and kept listening to his word," whereas Martha "was distracted with attending to many duties." Martha tried to get Mary's help, saying: "Lord, does it not matter to you that my sister has left me alone to attend to things? Tell her, therefore, to join in helping me." Obviously Martha was concerned about satisfying Jesus' material needs. But Christ then emphasized the excelling value of spiritual things and gave her kind reproof, saying: "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and disturbed about many things. A few things, though, are needed, or just one. For her part, Mary chose the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her." (Lu 10:38-42) Christ would have been satisfied with one item of food if his doing so would mean that Martha, too, would gain greater advantage from his teaching. This didn't mean that she lacked interest in spiritual matters. After the death of Lazarus, it was Martha who went to meet Jesus as he journeyed to Bethany. Martha showed faith in Christ when she said that Lazarus would not have died if Jesus had been present. She also acknowledged: "I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day," showing she believed in the resurrection. During that conversation Jesus explained that he is "the resurrection and the life," pointing out that though one exercising faith in him died, he would come to life. When Christ asked Martha, "Do you believe this?" she clearly showed her faith by replying: "Yes, Lord; I have believed that you are the Christ the Son of God, the One coming into the world." (Joh 11:19-27) At Lazarus' tomb, when Christ ordered that the stone be taken away, Martha said: "Lord, by now he must smell, for it is four days." But in response Jesus asked: "Did I not tell you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?" That she witnessed when her brother was resurrected.---Joh 11:39-44. After the resurrection of Lazarus, Christ departed. Later, he returned to Bethany and gathered with others, including Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, in the home of Simon the leper. An evening meal had been prepared and again "Martha was ministering." The Scriptures are silent regarding subsequent events in Martha's life and the time and circumstances of her death.

What does Jesus say to Lazarus?

Jesus said: "TAKE the stone away." Martha, the sister of the deceased, said to him: "Lord, by now he must smell, for it is four days." Jesus said to her: "Did I not tell you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?" Therefore they took the stone away. Now Jesus raised his eyes heavenward and said: "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. True, I knew that you always hear me; but on account of the crowd standing around I spoke, in order that they might believe that you sent me forth." And when he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice: "Laz′a‧rus, come on out!" The [man] that had been dead came out with his feet and hands bound with wrappings, and his countenance was bound about with a cloth. Jesus said to them: "Loose him and let him go." (John 11:39-44)
