Put into this mix a supernatural talking snake that could tell lies - which no one could understand as being lies - and you have the makings of a problem.
So, on being told to eat the apple Eve did so in an innocent fashion, just like she was designed to do and had no defense to allow her not to do so.
Being given a task to do that she was designed to fail, she failed.That is, she ate the apple.
