Zacchaeus was a tax collector. Everyone in that time hated the tax collectors so it seemed that someone claiming to be the Son of God should be doing much "holier" things. Jesus did this to show the people that anyone could come to know God and follow Him.
In the bible Jesus called out to Zacchaeus, a tax collector from Jericho, to make haste and to come down from the tree he had climbed as he was a short man, and wanted to see Jesus better. Being a tax collecter, Zacchaeus was one of a hated lot of people, but after this encounter with Jesus, Zacchaeus's life was changed. The story of Zacchaeus is recounted in Luke chapter 19.
Jesus was criticized for entering the house of Zacchaeus because Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector, considered a sinner and traitor by society. By associating with Zacchaeus, Jesus was seen as endorsing his behavior and going against social norms.
In the first century there was none so despised as the tax collector. They were reviled by most people and any respectable citizen would not associate with them. In fact, Jesus was rebuked by others when He stayed at the home of Zacchaeus. But after meeting Jesus and hearing the good news of salvation, Zacchaeus saw the error of his ways. Gaining forgivness, he repented, relieved himself of his worldly possessions and joined the Jesus movement.

In the gospel of Luke, we read when Zacchaeus came down from the tree after Jesus called him down, Jesus had dinner in his house that night. He then decided that he would repay people back four times over . As he was a tax collector he had cheated people often.
Querulous.

It depends on who is doing the inviting. If one person is inviting the guests, then use "invites." On the other hand, if two or more people are inviting the guests, then use "invite."
