Saul was a Pharisee and a persecutor of early Christians before his conversion to Christianity on the road to Damascus. After his conversion, he became known as Paul and became one of the most influential figures in spreading the teachings of Christianity.
Yes, Saint Paul was originally named Saul. He changed his name to Paul after his conversion to Christianity.
The irony of Saul's conversion to Paul in Christianity lies in his dramatic transformation from a fervent persecutor of Christians to one of Christianity's most influential apostles. Saul, a Pharisee, was known for his zealous efforts to eradicate the early Christian movement, yet after his encounter with the risen Christ on the road to Damascus, he became a passionate advocate for the faith he once sought to destroy. This reversal highlights the theme of redemption and the unexpected ways in which individuals can change, underscoring the belief that anyone can be transformed by divine grace.
Paul was the new name of Saul of Tarsus.
Jesus,Paul(Saul),and the other apostles of Jesus
Saul on the way to damascus to kill early christians , was struck by light and was blind for three days. Jesus said saul saul why do you persecuate me?. He then changed his ways and became the greatest missioary and wrote most of the books in the New Testament , incluiding one from jail. I doubt that Paul was literally struck by light from God. He probably just realized that it was not right to persecute Christians. Also, Paul changed religions in that he admitted uncircumcized Gentiles into the Christian community. This caused Christianity to be seen as an independent religion rather than a sect of Judaism. Paul, in his letters and in his actions, created the standard for Christianity that is still around today. Why did he do this? We will never know; we cannot enter his mind.
Saul approved of Stephen's stoning and witnessed it without intervening. He likely felt vindicated in his persecution of early Christians and emboldened in his efforts to suppress the spread of Christianity.
