No. His actual name in Hebrew was Yeshua ben Yosef. There was not a letter "J" at the time in Hebrew or Greek, so it would be translated in today's English as "Joshua, son of Joseph". The majority of the people in His time would have thought that Joseph was His father.
The angel told Joseph to name the baby Jesus before the baby was even born. Therefore, Jesus was named immediately after he was born or before, really.
An angel of the Lord. Mat 1:20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. Mat 1:21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins."
The name of the angel that visited Joseph is not given in the Bible.
Gabriel
The Christmas angel is based on the angel Gabriel who told Mary that she would have a baby; Jesus.
Joseph was told not to divorce Mary, as that was what he was thinking of doing.
Gabriel visited Mary to tell her that she had been chosen to bear Jesus (Luke 1:26-38). The angel who announced the birth of Christ to the shepherds is not named (Luke2:8-15). Matthew's gospel doesn't name any of the angels involved in events surrounding Jesus' birth. Mark and John do not record these angelic visits.
Because God is a real living being!
i think your reading another stoy it has to be Jesus b/c the angel that visit Mary told her to call him Jesus :]
Jesus is Joseph's Son. An angel appeared to Mary and Joseph in a dream and said that they will have a child. They were to name Him Jesus.
Luke 1:26, 27 - Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. [NKJV]
Jesus' original name was just that - Jesus - Just as the angel of the lord commanded Joseph - please see Matthew 1.21 - "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."
