According to Christian beliefs, Jesus redeemed us by his crucifixion. It was all according to God's plan. Herod was only a minor player, but on a purely civil basis, he found no problem with Jesus. Had he been a convert, the injustice of the sentence would not be valid. The same goes for Pilate. If Pilate had been converted, he would never have passed the death sentence. There would have been no crucifixion, thus no redemption.

What happend to pontius pilot after the crucifixion?

Pontius Pilate was thought by many to be mythical until archaeologists uncovered stone ruins with his name and position carved on them in 1961. Little is known of his fate, but some historical records suggest that he was not liked by a later ruler named Caligula. According to this account, he was exiled to Gaul by Caligula where he committed suicide in about 37 or 38 A.D. (approximately 4 years after Jesus' crucifixion).
