It is the nature of men to die. All livings beings are born, live a life of experiences then die. As Buddhists believe in reincarnation, the process of personal death is not to be feared as it leads only to rebirth. The Buddhist injunctions against desire prevent both seeking out death and clinging to life at all costs.
There is no desire in Buddhist doctrine to achieve eternal or even extraordinarily long life spans. The Buddha himself died at the age of 80.
The Buddhist lifestyle encourages simple eating, honest labour, avoiding alcohol and drugs, avoiding violence and violent emotions, and promotes care and concern for our fellow man. These characteristic could be summed up as a healthy lifestyle and promote a longer life. This is not however the objective.

The basis of Buddhism is that the person dies and is reborn. This continues until the person is enlightened at which point they can enter Nirvana a selfless state. Some people do not enter Nirvana to return to the cycle of death and rebirth to aid others in becoming enlightened. Non-Buddhists, such as Christians, believe that Buddhists die and go to the Christian hell for not becoming Christians. Non-Buddhists such as atheists, believe that when anybody dies they simply cease to exist.
