Makar sankrati is a festival to celebrate cold. it is the day according to hindu calendar that marks "uttarayana" that is the aparent north ward movement of sun from tropic of cancer towards the equator.

it is celebrated by eating heat giving food items likes jaggery, til (sesame), Its also the time to make ornaments about of "halwa" and dress up kids or pregnant women and shower ber and halwa. usually on this day it is said that one should wear black coloured clothes.
