Sukkot was commanded by God (Leviticus ch.23). The sukkahs we build are to symbolize and commemorate the protection which God gave us in the wilderness. We put our trust in God, not in the walls of our houses.
The sukkah reminds us of God's protection in the wilderness immediately after the exodus from Egypt. The sukkah's vegetation-canopy symbolizes the Clouds of Glory in the wilderness.
She was not "put in" a desert. Abraham asked her to leave as commanded by God, he gave her food and water, and she herself walked out into the wilderness near Be'er Sheva (Genesis ch.21), since Be'er Sheva was surrounded by wilderness.

They were put in a nice order from God in the fish's body. God put the scales there like He put skin on us to protect us from getting hurt easily.
What would it have taken to survive 40 years in the wilderness? Faith, believing that God the Father will provide every need for He provides even for the birds in the sky, imagine how much He must care for us. And also hope, knowing that one day God will bring the Israelites out of the wilderness with victory.
