God NEVER forgets us. Although, when times are hard he sometimes feels very distant. The Book of Job is a poem in The Bible that deals with human suffering. Job has all manner of problems that fall upon him, as a result of Satan's intervention in his life. Despite his 'comforters' trying to comfort him - but in fact making his feelings and situation far worse - Jog remains faithful to God. In the end, all is well, and God reinstates him as he was - but even more blessed. Job is just a story but it has a moral for us - God IS there during times of suffering - He knows exactly what suffering is. In Jesus, Christians believe that God became human in order to suffer for us. As a result God knows what we go through - he laughs with us when we are happy and will never desert us when we are sad. When he seems distant, spend time with him - listen to him. He may not (almost certainly!) talk to you in a way you will recognise. When Elijah was on Mount Horeb, he expected God to come in an earthquake, in a fire and in wind - instead, all the spectacular freaks of nature were empty of God's words; instead after everything had passed, he heard he voice of God in the stillness of a gentle breeze. So when God seems distant - look for him. Spend time looking for him. Spend time with him because he WILL be at your side if only you recogniise him. Look for him in the beauty of a flower, in the smile of a baby, in the face of a holy person, in the clear night sky, in the sun on your face... and listen. God promises never to desert those who love him - and he won't.
