Many people believe Jesus is the son of God. That makes him important.
There is a story for this answer. Stick with me.
In the beginning, God created us to be with Him. So we were in perfect harmony, us and God. But then we sinned. That marked us forever. Our sins separate us from God. Because God is perfect, imperfect things cannot be in his presence, so they go to the other place, known as hell. So that means for every tiny thing we do wrong, we deserve hell. A lot of people think that we can replace sins with good deeds, but we can't. It's like throwing rocks at the moon. Can't be done. So God, who still loves us, wanted to save us from this fate. So he sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sins. He took on the weight of our sins, experienced hell, so we don't have to. But here's the good part. He proved that He is God by rising from the grave. So now everyone who believes in Him and accepts Him as the Savior will go to Heaven. And Heaven means being with God forever.
God loves you.

What is special about Easter day?

It is important to Christians as it is the most important day of the year and most important event in Christianity. The Resurrection is very important. St. Paul said that if Christ is not risen that our faith is in vain. Christ came to rise from the dead, so what he did was more important than his actual arrival, which is what Christmas is. People generally celebrate Christmas more, but Easter is more important.
