A:The New Testament was written in Greek, and its authors would therefore have been familiar with the cult of Horus. In addition, Keel and Uehlinger (Gods, Goddesses and Images of God in Ancient Israel) say that Horus is the best-documented foreign god in the onomasticon (derivation of personal names used on seals) of Israel and Judah from Iron Age II, but particularly Judah in the late monarchy. In Phoenicia the Egyptian deity most commonly represented on high quality scarabs was Isis, nursing the infant Horus, much like later representations of Mary and Jesus. Although these scarabs were not found in Judah, the onomasticon shows that Horus was worshipped there, and Judahites would have been familiar with the imagery. It is not impossible that Horus remained, at least culturally, part of Jewish religious thought into the first century CE.

It is also very possible that similarities between Horus and Jesus are simply coincidences.

Why is the story of Jesus a repeat of earlier stories?

Some believe that the story of Jesus is a repeat of earlier stories such as the stories of Isis and Osiris, Horus or other gods, or even of Homer's epics, because they see the Christian story actually as having developed from stories well known in the first century. Early Christian church leaders agreed that the story of Jesus is a repeat of earlier stories, but said that it is because Satan had pre-empted Jesus in order to make it difficult for people to believe in him.
