Why should religious believers do more to fight prejudice?

Because God does not discriminate:

Acts 10:35, 36 - Then Peter opened his mouth and said: "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him."

Romans 2:11 - For there is no partiality with God.

We have to be fair here: the question is not why religious believers should be against discrimination, but why they are against discrimination, which first raises the issue of whether they are against discrimination:

• Many religious believers believe in discrimination against females, at least in religious service if not in family and social life.
• Many religious believers believe in discrimination against followers of religions different to their own. Christians, Muslims and Jews discriminate agaisnt each other. They share in discriminating agaisnt members of other faiths, such as Hinduism and Buddhism.
• President Bush (snr), a religious believer, is quoted as saying, "No, I don't know that atheists should be regarded as citizens, nor should they be regarded as patriotic." He clearly believes in discrimination.
• Southerners regarded it as their Christian right to hold slaves. Until at least the latter part of the twentieth century, Afro-Americans were discriminated against by white Christians.

On the basis of this, there is no evidence that religious believers are necessarily against discrimination, although on an individual basis many are. If people of religious belief are becoming more and more opposed to discrimination, this is likely for the same reasons that non-believers are also opposed to discrimination - because discrimination is wrong.
