Why was Abraham important to Jesus?

God promised Abraham that by means of his seed , all the nations would bless themselves. Thus, thru his second son Isaac and then grandson Jacob (also known as Israel), after 1900 years, Jesus would be born to Joseph and Mary, who were both descendants of king David in the tribe of Judah.

So, the promise was that through one of his descendants that all mankind would be blessed. So one of the ways to verify the coming Messiah would be to identify him as a descendant of Abraham.

Abraham was one of Jesus ancestors.
