Ruth and Esther are both women who have books in the bible named after them, but that is where the similarity between them ends. Ruth was a woman from Moav, from the days of the 'Shoftim" - before the 1st temple was built. Ruth converted to Judaism, and became the great grandmother of King David. Esther was a Jewish queen in Parsia, whi saved the Jewish community from destruction. She lived a few decades before the second temple was built.
The three-day fast that Esther decreed for herself and all the other Jews (Esther 4:16) were days of prayer and repentance, just like every other Jewish fast throughout history. Also, Esther could have remained safe in her opulent palace as the Jews were slaughtered (Esther 4:13), but instead she risked her life to intercede for them (Esther 4:16), which was an act of faith in God.See also:More about Esther
