We do indeed know that the gospels were written long after the traditional date for the death of Jesus, and we even know that they were written anonymously and only attributed to the apostles whose names they now bear later in the second century. The first gospel was Mark's Gospel, which was written approximately 70 CE. We can not be certain as to why forty years had passed, but its authorship was possibly prompted by the savage end to the First Roman-Jewish War and the Civil War in Jerusalem, described vividly in chapter 13.

Scholars can also demonstrate that the Gospels of Matthew and Luke were based on the earlier Gospel of Mark. That being the case, it was not possible for the later gospels to be written until Mark had been published and distributed widely. John's Gospel, in turn, was loosely based on Luke's Gospel, with some material taken directly from Mark. So, since Luke was only written around the end of the first century, John's Gospel was necessarily written early in the second century.

It was common practice, and considered not at all improper, to attribute a text to an earlier, respected source, as long as it was felt that the later work was in line with what the earlier author would have written. Thus we see Ephesians and Colossians written in the second half of the first century in Paul's name, and the Pastorals written in the second century, again in Paul's name. In the same way, the Epistles of Jude and Peter are clearly second century works attributed to the disciples whose names they bear.Jude even speaks, somewhat carelessly, of the disciples as people who had lived in the distant past.

The New testament was not written in Hebrew, so it was NEVER translated from Hebrew to Latin. The earliest known translations of the Greek New Testament into Latin consist of a number of piecework translations during the early Church period, during the late 4th Century CE.Collectively, these versions are known as the Vetus Latina. Were the Gospels written prior to any of the New Testament letters?

A:No. Mark, the earliest New Testament gospel, was written approximately 70 CE, after the time of Paul. So Paul's seven genuine epistles were written before the first gospel to be written. New Testament scholars have noted that the author of Mark seems to have known Paul's epistles and might have used some material from them.

What was the Christian Testament and you do not know where it can be found in the Bible?

First that question is not properly written to give you the perfect answer. The "Christian testament"? The Bible is made out of the "Old Testament" and the "New Testament" which is the Bible. The Bible is broken up by different books that create the Old and the New. In the Old Testament, that is where Jesus has not yet come to earth and die for our sins. Therefore, in the Old Testament there was worse judgment on the world. Then, the New Testament is when Jesus finally came to earth to die for our sins so that we may have eternal life. Basically, the Bible is in two halves. The Old Testament starts with Genesis where God talks about how he created the world. Then the New Testament starts in the Book of Matthew then so on. If you are looking to study about Jesus Christ, start with the New Testament.

Which New Testament book was written last and by who?

A:It is somewhat uncertain which New Testament book was written last. Bible scholars say that 2 Peter includes material based on the Epistle of Jude, which self-identifies as a second-century work, so Second Peter was probably written not long before 150 CE and might have been the last New Testament book to be written. Although attributed to the apostle Peter, the real author is anonymous.
