Mainly because no other group of people wanted to live in the Salt Lake basin area. Most settlers went to California or Oregon. The Salt Lake area was considered a inhabitable desert. Therefore, left to themselves they thrived.
Utah has a remarkable history. Probably the most important event in the history of Utah is the settling of the area by Mormons who moved to escape religious persecution.
Mormonism began in 1830, over 100 years after the pilgrims. Therefore the Mormons never had an opportunity to help them.
There have been many Mormons in politics through the years. Please see the related source link below.
I think you mean 1847-1890, as the west was pretty well settled in the 1900's. Mormons arrived in Utah in 1847 and were so successful in their settling of the west because they were highly organized. Brigham Young organized groups to settle various settlements, each a telegraph's length apart, and each with a certain purpose. This way, communication was relatively rapid (for those days), transportation relatively easy (the settlements were needed both for supplies and safety from unfriendly Indians and vigilantes), and the communities were able to work together to support the whole. Southern communities produced cotton, silk, and warm weather crops. Central Utah settlements did ranching, farming, and mining. Northern Utah traded with travelers passing through to California as well as industry, farming, and ranching.
The first permanent white settlement in Oregon was at Fort Astoria in 1811. The Mormons arrived in Utah in 1847, 36 years later.
About 70,000 people over several years.
Many things that people say against Mormons simply come from someone who is uninformed or has a different opinion. This does not mean that it is bad, but it is often offensive. Those who are uninformed or misinformed often say: -Mormons are polygamist (this practice was banned by the church over 120 years ago in 1890) -Mormons dont believe in the Bible (Mormons consider the King James Version of the Bible as sacred scripture and are encouraged to study it daily) -Mormons don't believe in Jesus (Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is their Savior, just like all Christians) -Mormons are cultish (Mormons live and dress and act just like most anyone else in society. They do not live on compunds, etc.) -Mormons worship Joseph Smith (Mormons believe Joseph Smith was a prophet, just like Moses or Abraham, not a god to be worshipped) -Mormons kidnap, brainwash, coerce, etc (Mormons wish everyone to make their own decisions, and define their standards by Scripture) Those who have different opinions and say things that are offensive to Mormons often say: -Mormons are not Christian (Mormons are not traditional Protestant Christians, but they do still believe in the Bible and salvation through Jesus Christ.) -Mormons are lying (Mormons honestly believe they are telling the truth) -Mormonism is a pyramid scheme (Mormons believe in paying a Tithe and in missions work to gain converts, but believe this is Biblically based and do not seek converts for monetary gain) -Mormons are unbiblical (Mormons believe that they are following the Bible very strictly, but the Bible can be interpreted differently by different people) -Mormonism is false (this is obviously just an opinion, but one that is often offensive to those who honestly believe)
Most people do not hate Mormons, the Osmonds are very popular Mormons singing family. The State of Utah hosted the Winter Olympics a few years ago. Some people do dislike the idea of a man having more than one wife at a time (or the idea of a woman having more than one husband at a time), and some Mormons men have more than one wife. On the whole Mormons who have one spouse at a time are very popular.
yesAnswerI am sorry but the first answer has misled you. Mormons do not bless their underwear. I am a Mormon and have been for 50 or so years, and no such blessing has ever taken place or ever will.Respectfully.
The United States Army was directed to send a regiment to Utah to keep an eye on the Mormons and make sure that they weren't planning an insurrection against the government. They arrived a few years after the first Mormon pioneers.
Many things including settling in North America about 500 years before it was "discovered".
No, there is no limit to settle an estate. It can take many years for a complex estate.
