Why were there so many chapters written in the last week of Jesus' life?

The people who wrote them don't directly tell us, but they most likely wanted us to know what terrible punishments and how badly Jesus suffered to forgive the all the sins of the entire world then and in the future. They wrote every detail so you would know your sins were forgiven at a very costly price, and you know every little bit of how it was paid.

First answer

The last week contains the story of the Crucifixion and Resurrection, and the Gospel author's presented this in detail because it is the key to understanding the mission of Jesus, his life, and his significance for us.

Second answer

Because those that compiled the New Testament were more concerned with supernatural aspects that had the mystery's surrounded by impractical and unprovable aspect as they could be moulded and changed as time went by to suit the superstitions of the day, rather then the actual message that Jesus held himself and his ideas up as an example.

The first answer was written from my perspective as a committed Christian, while I believe that the second response was written by someone who considers a great teacher but not the Son of God.

The most important work Jesus did was die on the cross and rise from the grave. He also had a last supper with His disciples and prayed for them.
