I would study the doctrine of the Lutheren church alongside the plumbline of God's Word before I let them pass my daughter a conterfiet hope of salvation. John 1:13 ...Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

I don't know what the above comment is all about, but regarding the question: Yes, a sponsor must also be confirmed. Confirmation is the affirmation of our Christian beliefs. Most of us are baptized as babies so that our parents make our commitment to God for us. When we reach the age of 13 or so, we are more able to make this commitment for ourselves, which is what we do when we are confirmed. Choosing a sponsor is extremely important as this person should act as a mentor to you in your faith life, encouraging you and guiding you as you grow in your faith.

well, i know that at my church, a catholic church, the sponsor has to be confirmed, and over 16 to be the sponsor for the candidate. I'm being confirmed soon, and my sponsor is my godmother.
