How do you write a prayer letter request?

A prayer request letter is an example of informal letter writing, versus a formal business letter.

In your written prayer request, it is polite to address it to a specific person but it is okay if you do not know a particular name. If you do not know who to address it to, you could say, "Dear Prayer Request Team," or "Dear Prayer Believers" (as two examples).

Next, begin your letter honestly. You could be very simple by saying, "Please pray for me" or you could tell why you would like the person or organization's time to pray for you or your problem. If you are seeking actual help (example: money), then the more details you provide, the better the church can evaluate your needs and decide whether they can help you.

I repeat: You do NOT need to give details about your problem(s) if you do not want to do that. God knows needs already. However, other people say that the need must be stated so that prayers can be directed to that one "need". I'm of the belief that God knows the problem whether or not prayer is detailed.

Write what is in your heart/mind. As in all letters, thank the person for reading your letter and for their time.

Decide whether you want to sign your name or not. Note: In this kind of informal writing, you do not NEED to give your name, address, city, State Zip unless you want a return letter.

Be aware that many large churches or evangelists have "prayer teams" who never read the letters; Instead, they bundle the mail into stacks and "pray over" the unopened mail. After a "group prayer" over hundreds or thousands of unopened mail, the mail is discarded (trashed).

If you are writing to a place in hopes of getting physical needs or actual needs met, you may want to do the format of a business letter. You could write or type it. State your specific need, such as: My husband lost his job 6 months ago. We are in need of help to pay the electric bill. etc Ask for help. Include your phone number. Offer to provide proof of the need, such as proof of income. Churches get bombarded every day with requests for financial help so the more info you provide, the better result you might get.
