What is the difference between revelation and illumination?

Proverbs 1:7 teaches that the beginning of knowledge is the fear of the Lord. Then once we have knowledge, we know the facts. Wisdom comes when know how to apply those facts to our lives with sound judgement. Our ultimate goal have revelation which can only be given by God.

Revelation is the last book of The Bible but it also has a root origin and meaning.

Revelation comes from the word "reveal" so it means something which is revealed, shown or uncovered.

Illumination comes from the word "illuminate" which means a number of things but here basically "to light up". Illumination is lighting. But it can also be used figuratively to mean something which makes something easier to see, and by extension easier to understand.

Revelation is generally thought of as an instant process: zap! Something you never knew before has been shown to you. But illumination can be more gradual, like the dawning of light which leads to better understanding.
