The purpose of a parable is to "hide the meaning of what's being said" so that people won't understand it.

"The disciples came to Him and asked, 'Why do you speak to the people in parables?' He replied, 'The knowledge of the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven has been given to you, but not to them'... This is why I speak to them in parables: 'Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.' But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear." (Matt.13:10-16 NIV)

Jesus doesn't want the masses to understand God's Truth yet. It isn't time yet to heal the world... but for calling God's "elect" to salvation. Judgment Day, the Last Great Day in God's plan, will be the time to reveal His Truth to the vast majority of mankind who have lived and died.

Even after Jesus explained this to His disciples... they still had to come to Him privately after the crowds of people had dispersed for an explanation of the meanings of the parables, because they didn't understand them, either:

"...Then He left the crowd and went into the (His) house. His disciples came to Him and said, 'EXPLAIN TO US THE PARABLE OF THE WEEDS IN THE FIELD.'" (verse 36)

Jesus then explained to His disciples in private what the symbols of the parables mean:

"...The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the Sons of the Kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels..." (verses 37-39).

This conversation between Jesus and His disciples has been recorded in The Bible in these last days... yet the world still doesn't understand the parables... or Jesus' clear explanation of their meanings.

"...As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will weed out of His Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear." (verses 40-43)

There... as clear as a bell... is Jesus' private explanation of the parable of the weeds, yet the world somehow still doesn't know what it means... nor believe it. Isaiah's prophecy has continued to see fulfillment all down through the generations of men... and is even less believed and understood as the Day of His return draws nearer.

Isaiah asked the Lord how long this ignorance of God's Truth would continue... and this is the reply:

"...UNTIL THE CITIES LIE IN RUIN and WITHOUT INHABITANT, until the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged, until the LORD has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken..." (Isa.6:11-12 NIV)

In a time when cities around the world struggle to avoid bandruptcy and home foreclosures plague the inhabitants... this might be a timely, immediate and frightening prophecy... if anyone bothered to believe it.

Many modern professing Christian denominations teach that Jesus spoke in parables in order to "make the meaning of what He was saying CLEARER." This is the exact opposite of what Jesus says.

A parable is a way of making a comparison. It puts facts having to do with nature, material things, and /or incidents, along with spiritual truths either to explain (for willing minds or hide (from unwilling minds) the meanings of those truths. - Matt 13:10-17.

The parables Jesus spoke were either to or about Israel but unwilling Israelites wanted no part of Jesus. To those willing to listen the meanings of the parable were made clear.
