Saint Anne was not a Christian, she was born a Jew and died a Jew. She died long before Christ began his public ministry.

In Christian tradition, a cross is a symbol of protection and faith. Saint Brigid, as a Christian saint, is associated with miracles and protection, so carrying or wearing a cross could be seen as a way to invoke her intercession and protection against harm or evil.
There is debate among scholars about the authenticity of her biography, and therefore about her early life. According to her biographers her parents were Dubhthach, a pagan chieftain of Leinster, and Brocca, a Christian Pict who had been baptized by Saint Patrick. Some accounts of her life suggested that Brigid's mother was in fact from Lusitania, kidnapped by Irish pirates and brought to Ireland to work as a slave in much the same way as Patrick.
Roman Catholic AnswerA saint is anyone who is in heaven. The only way you can get to heaven is to be perfect and to follow the Will of God for you. St. Paul did the Will of God in his life, died, and went to heaven. If you want to know more about his life, read the Acts of the Apostles, and his letters in the New Testament.
There is no such thing as becoming a saint in a fictional way.
The term saint refers to New Testament individuals. I can find no saints who entered heaven after the death of Our Lord named Joshua. There may be many such saints with that name who are known only to God. We do not usually refer to holy people from the Old Testament as saints, although they may be in Heaven.
It doesn't have to be but it is tradition to name a Catholic Church after a saint, because of the good things Saints have done, and this means the Church's name reflects the good which the saint did in their life.
