Why is Maria Goretti so special?

She was a 12 yr. old Itailian girl who was killed because she would not marry/love her neighbor, Alexander. In his fury Alexander murdered Maria. Before Maria died in the hospital, she forgave Alexander, and spent her whole 12 yrs. loving and praising God.
