In ancient times, eating pork put one at risk of developing trichinosis, a disease caused by worms found in pork. Pork was considered unclean, unhealthy(lots of fat), and cruel--pigs are extremely intelligent animals.

In The Bible, God tells us not to kill.

Answer:

1) When God orders permits or prohibits something, there usually is a reason.
2) It was later found that pigs have many drawbacks that would affect human health;
they are a perfect media for breeding new species of viruses and bacteria.
a)-they carry within meat many kinds of parasites,
b)-the fatty tissue is not separated from the meat, but the triglycerides are embedded in the protein, hence increasing the chance of atherosclerosis,
c)-pigs eat unclean food, they are created to clean earth from garbage, something which is not suitable for human to eat.

Which religion doesnt eat pork?

There are several relgions who will not eat pork as they believe God has forbidden them from doing so. Muslims don't eat pork because they believe it to be a filthy disease-carrying beast, which in medical terms may well be true. The Qur'an strictly forbids them from eating pork: "He has only forbidden you dead meat and blood and the flesh of swine and any food over which the Name of Allah has not been invoked."( Qur'an 2:173). The Jewish people are also forbidden pork for similar reasons as Muslims. As well as considering the pig to be an unclean beast, the Jews are forbidden from eating any animal with cloven hooves: "....and the swine, because it divideth the hoof yet yet does not chew the cud, it is unclean...." , (Deuteronomy 14:8). Seventh Day Adventists also refrain from pork for the same reasons. There are also some people who will argue that all Christians should not pork because Jesus said that He had not come to destroy the law and prophets, but to fulfil them. (refer Matthew 5 17:19).

What does the New Testament say about eating pork?

There is nothing that specifically mentions pork by name, but the closest reference we have is the vision of Peter (Acts 10:11-15) where he is told to "Rise, kill and eat."The New Testament does not impose any restrictions on eating pork.Let us not forget that Jesus is come not abolish the Old Law but to fulfil them.Mathew 5:17-18Let us not forget that the Old Testament says pork is unclean and not fit for eating: "And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase." Deuteronomy 14:8Let us also not forget that in the Acts of the Apostles 10:15 (in the context of 10:10 to 11:18 or so; never take a fragment out of context as the only, full truth) the New testament also says, in this precise connection: "And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven." It is not for anyone who accepts the truth of the bible as the message of God, to disrespect or quibble with its direct command or evaluation. Note that, like many of the messages in the bible, this one had more meanings than one; it referred not only to accepting the food of the gentiles, which is what is needed if one is to go out among them according to God's command to the apostles, but also to accepting the gentiles themselves into the church, in conflict with many passages in the Old Testament. If God guides His subjects: "Go left, now right, now left again," then it is not for them to say: "Bad guide! why not make up your mind?" If one grants a GPS that freedom, who is to deny it to God? Of course, it is up to you whose guidance and commands to respect, but if the question is about what the New Testament says, then that is the answer; Peter himself stopped to think, very, very carefully, about both the meaning of the message concerning food and its meaning concerning members of the church, but stopping to think does not mean stopping till you find a way to weasel out of the command of the Lord.Read more: What_does_the_new_testament_about_eating_meat

Does it say in the new testament that it is okay to eat pork?

Quote "Yes. According to the Bible, Peter had a vision of God's New Covenant with man through Jesus, and therefore we are now able to enjoy yummy bacon without guilt. Acts 11:4-10 4 Peter began and explained everything to them precisely as it had happened: 5 "I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. 6 "I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds of the air. 7 "Then I heard a voice telling me, 'Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.' 8 "I replied, 'Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.' 9 "The voice spoke from heaven a second time, 'Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.' 10 "This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.""I'm not sure what translation you are using here but in the KJV Acts 10 8-28 it uses the words common and unclean. Unclean is the description originally used to forbid eating any animal with split hooves. The word common is used in reference to the food that the gentiles ate (foreign food). God never said he blessed unclean. His words were "What God has cleansed, that call not though common." The vision of Peter does not state there were any animals with split hooves. Also in verse 28 it plainly states upon meeting Cornelius Peter said " Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath showed me that I should not call any man common or unclean." He is referring to the trance/vision that some use as an excuse to eat forbidden foods. Some people just didn't get the story of Adam and Eve. lol_AK
