Since in the first two centuries AD Ephesus had a population of around 500,000 and was an important political and trade center it is unlikely that there was not one single worshiper of Bacchus there, given the Roman presence.
Ephesus is however particularly noted for its devotion to the goddess Diana (otherwise known as Artemis), whose temple was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. This indicates that this god was popular given the great cost in building this enormous public structure, which excavations have revealed was 239 feet wide and 418 feet long (the temple platform), the roof being supported by 117 60 foot high columns.
The picture of the riot which followed the preaching of the Christian message by Paul in the Book of Acts (see 19:13) indicates that the worship of this goddess supported a flourishing industry for those who made images and who then saw their livelihood being threatened by this new 'imageless' religion.
The Ephesians were known to worship Artemis (Diana), the goddess of fertility and the hunt, rather than Bacchus, the god of wine. Artemis had a significant temple in Ephesus known as the Temple of Artemis, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Three ways to worship God include prayer, attending religious services, and practicing acts of service and kindness towards others. Each individual may have their own unique ways of worshiping based on their beliefs and practices.
To worship God in spirit and truth we need to worship God from the heart and to worship Him according to the truth of His Word in The Bible. God is a Spirit, therefore we need to worship Him as a Spirit, and not as some carved image. This is why Jesus taught us that even our thoughts can cause us to sin, because everything begins in the mind. So our thoughts needs to be captivated by the Love of Christ.
Paul uses the phrase "put on" twice in the book of Ephesians. Here are the two verses from Ephesians in which this phrase is found: Ephesians 4:24 "And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."Ephesians 6:11 "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." Paul also uses this phrase 9 more times in other books of the Bible: once in Romans (twice if you count "put ye on"), four times in two verses in 1 Corinthians, once in Galatians, and three times in Colossians.
The first piece of the Armor of God is the belt of truth, according to Ephesians 6:14. This represents living a life of integrity and being grounded in truth as you navigate spiritual warfare.
The phrase that refers to the right to worship as one chooses is "freedom of religion." This fundamental human right grants individuals the liberty to practice any religion or none at all, without discrimination or interference from the government or other people.
