What did the Council of Laodicea in AD 336 recognize as the New Testament?

The Council of Laodicea in AD 336 recognized the same 27 books of the New Testament that are commonly accepted today by most Christian denominations. These books include the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), the Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles of Paul, and the Book of Revelation. The Council's decision helped solidify the canon of the New Testament and establish a standard set of scriptures for the Christian faith.

Did Abraham write any books?

No he didn't. He didn't know how to read and write.Answer:Yes, he did. We don't today possess what he wrote, but to claim that he didn't know how to read or write is unfounded. Archaeologists have unearthed the clay student-tablets in Mari, Ur and elsewhere and it has become clear that education at the time was widespread, including writing. Maimonides explicitly states that Abraham composed books (Mishneh Torah, Avodat Kokhavim 1:3).

The languages which the old and New Testaments were written in?

Most of the Old Testament was written in Hebrew, a slight variation of which is still spoken today. Parts of it (notably in the book of Daniel) are written Aramaic. Most of the New Testament is written in Koine Greek (which is not quite like ancient Greek from Homer or Aristotle but is also not like the Greek spoken today in Greece.) Some words in the New Testament are given in Aramaic, like "Talitha koum!" in Mark 5:41. The Aramaic language dates back a long ways and has undergone some changes, particularly because it was a widespread language at one time. However, the primary languages of the Bible are Hebrew and Koine Greek.

What is the advice of St. Thomas Aquinas to the students today?

There is an excellent letter written by St. Thomas to a brother John. The advice is timeless, and applies just as much to students today as it did hundreds of years ago. Here is a link to an English translation, but I would recommend reading the Latin if you know it -- the English of this version is a bit unwieldy. If you wish to pursue this line of thought further, I recommend a little book called "The Intellectual Life" by Sertillanges. It is primarily a commentary on this letter of St. Thomas.

How many New Testament books did Matthew write?

A:Even today, many people are incredulous when told that we know only one person by name who actually wrote New Testament books - Paul, who probably wrote seven epistles. The entire remainder of the New Testament is called pseudepigraphical - either written in the name of a well-known predecessor or wrongly attributed to a predecessor.Of course, all these books did have authors, but we do not know who they were, nor exactly how many were written by the same author. The eight traditional authors of the New Testament are: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, James, Peter and Jude.

The bible as we have it today was not available to Matthew. He himself wrote at least one of the books, and it was much later when all of the books written by all of the authors were brought together.
