The Bible does not explain why, but Peter may have had prior knowledge of what the amount should have been, or he was prompted by God since Peter stressed that the lie was against Him.

Peter knew Ananias had lied because the Holy Spirit of God told him: there was no other way he could have known:-

Act 5:1 And a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession.

Act 5:2 And he kept back part of the price, his wife also knowing, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles' feet.

Act 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart for you to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

Act 5:4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own authority? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God.

Act 5:5 And hearing these words, Ananias fell down and expired. And great fear came on all those who heard these things.

Act 5:6 And the younger ones arose, wound him up, and carrying him out, they buried him.

Act 5:7 And it was about the space of three hours afterward, when his wife (not knowing what was done) came in.

Act 5:8 And Peter ed her, Tell me whether you sold the land for so much? And she said, Yes, for so much.

Act 5:9 Then Peter said to her, How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door and they will carry you out.

Act 5:10 Then at once she fell down at his feet and expired. And the younger ones found her dead, and, carrying her out, buried her beside her husband.

Act 5:11 And great fear came on all the church and on as many as heard these things.

Ananias kept back part of the price: the amount he offered Peter was lower than the actual price he received for the land. If he had told Peter this was not all the money and that he had kept some back, he would not have done anything wrong because it was his land to do what he wished, and he would not have died. This means he had previously said he would donate all the proceeds of the sale, but he didn't, and so he died. This proves God knows our innermost thoughts: if lying brought an immediate death penalty today, there would not be many people left alive on earth.

Exercising Spiritual Gifts:

1Corinthians 12 teaches there are "diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit". These are to be used for the common good. The first two of the nine mentioned are the "word of wisdom" and the "word of knowledge". Peter may have exercised a word of knowledge, the Holy Spirit giving him knowledge that Ananias was double dealing. By speaking forthrightly with that knowledge, Peter uncovered the truth.

In Acts of the Apostles how does Ananias die?

A:Acts chapter 5 speaks approvingly of the murder of Ananias and his wife, Sepphora, who had promised to give all their money to the Church but had secretly withheld some. Acts 5:5 says that when confronted with this, Ananias simply fell down and died. If there is any doubt that this was a natural death, this is dispelled by verse 5:9, in which Peter tells Sepphora that she will die the same way. In order to defend Peter against the obvious charge of murder, some claim that it was not Peter but the Holy Spirit who brought about the deaths but this is only shifting the blame, not removing the sin. In defence of both Simon Peter and the Holy Spirit, it is unlikely that these events took place.Answer:What the Bible tells us is that both Ananias and his wife "fell down" and "gave up the ghost." What the Bible tells us in the Book of Acts is that Ananias and Sapphira's lie was pretending to have given all when in fact they had only given a part. The Bible tells us their death was an act of God, not of Peter, and was evidently intended to be an example for all time of God's displeasure at the sins of greed and religious hypocrisy. The incident shows God's attitude toward a wrong heart; it is a warning, in the beginning days of the church, against using or rather misusing the church as a means of self glorification and it had an immediate effect on the church.

In the book of Acts is Ananias of Damascus the same as Ananias and Sapphira and Ananias the high priest?

I would say that they are indeed different people. Ananias and Sapphira are mentioned in Acts chapter 5. The other Ananias is mentioned in Acts chapter 9 which I would think is at a later time.Although, When the Lord told Ananias to go to Saul, Ananias questioned the Lord (Acts 9:11-15) which is similarto the behavior exhibited by the Ananias who was married to Saphira and lied "...not unto men, but unto God." Acts 5:4

What was Peter's question to Ananias?

Acts 5:3-4 (King James Version) 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

What example do you follow for forgiveness is it Jesus who forgives the woman caught in adultery who does not ask for forgiveness or Peter who kills the couple who skimp on their monetary donation?

It was not the fact that they skimped on their monetary donation but the fact that they lied to God that was the reason for the death of Ananias and Sapphira. There is nothing in chapter 5 of Acts that suggests Peter killed Ananias and Sapphira. Of course Jesus is the ultimate example of forgivensess. ASKER: But didn't the guy named Paul (apostle?) kill a man for calling him bald? Seems to be pretty much like Peter did killing Ananias and Sapphira. Both Paul and Peter could have blessed those folks who had done wrong, but they chose instead to curse unto death. I don't remember Jesus doing anything like this even when he was on the cross he prayed, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do".

How many years after Ananias talked to Saul did Ananias die for lying to God?

Ananias did not die for lying to God in relation to Saul; rather, Ananias was a disciple who interacted with Saul after his conversion. The Ananias who died for lying to God is a different person mentioned in Acts 5:1-11, who, along with his wife Sapphira, lied about the proceeds from a sale of property. There is no specific timeline provided in the Bible to determine how many years separate these two events, but they are distinct occurrences involving different Ananias figures.
