From a Christian standpoint: King Solomon, who is considered the wealthiest person to ever live, wrote these words at Ecclesiastes 12:13: "The conclusion of the matter, everything having been heard, is: Fear the true God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole obligation of man." Even though he had unimaginable wealth, his conclusion was that listening to God was the most important thing in life.

Keeping God's commandments is key to walking with God. Also imitating Jesus Christ, who was the very image of his Father, will help you to walk in the path of God. Since Jesus focused on showing love to others, that is what we should also do if we want to follow in his footsteps.

What it means to fall short of the glory of god?

We experience the glory of God as we walk in fellowship with Him. I John 1:7 "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." Because none of us walk perfectly, we need a savior. Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" All men except Jesus Christ have broken fellowship with God, which is sin.
