How many judges were there in the book of judges and name?

There are 13 judges spoken of in the book of Judges. Those were not the only judges in Israel's history, however. Some consider Joshua to be a judge, though he is not officially recognized as such. Samuel, on the other hand, is a judge; and becomes the last prior to the rise of the Israeli kings.

There are 12 renowned judges (i.e. military leaders) in the Book of Judges. Some have their exploits described in great detail, and are referred to as Major Judges, while The Bible only gives a few lines of the military achievements of the others, and they are referred to as Minor Judges.
