You should only tithe as much as you can afford. You should not impoverish yourself in order to give your money to a church.

Tithe is a word used long ago to mean "a tenth". Tithes were paid to the church or to the Lord of the Manor. It meant that you should give one tenth of whatever you had, whether crops or animals or money. There were "tithe barns" in which the Lord of the Manor would store crops or hay which had been given to him.

Traditionally, tithing involves giving 10% of your income to support the church or charitable causes. However, the decision of how much to tithe ultimately depends on your personal beliefs, financial situation, and the guidance or practices of your faith community. Some individuals may choose to give more or less than 10%.

What is the truth about tithing in the New Testament?

Tithing is a practice that originated in the Old Testament, where people were required to give one-tenth of their income or produce to support the Levites and priests. In the New Testament, there is no explicit command to tithe, but Jesus and the apostles emphasized the importance of generosity, sacrificial giving, and supporting the work of the church and those in need. The principle of giving cheerfully, generously, and according to one's ability is more emphasized than a specific percentage.

Should you tithe on tax refund?

Your tithe should be 10% of your pre-tax income, NOT 10% of your take-home income. That way, when you file your taxes, you don't have to worry about what needs to be tithed. You should also make sure you get a tax receipt from your church that shows how much you gave, that way you'll get some of that additional money back, since you're giving the pre-tax amount.

How much should you tithe if you do not have a church?

Even if you aren't a part of a local church (which is a terrible mistake), for a Christian, there is really only one Church. A tithe is 10% of your income that God commands his children to give back to him. If you don't have a church right now, give to a ministry that you believe in.
